Drives & MotionHigh-performance variable frequency drives for HVAC applications
The ABB ACH580 is a dedicated HVAC variable-frequency drive (VFD) designed to deliver efficient, reliable and easy-to-manage motor control across heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems — from fans, pumps and compressors to chillers and air-handling systems.
A dedicated HVAC drive solution for energy-efficient control of fans, pumps, compressors, chillers and air-handling systems.
Purpose-built HVAC functionality supports applications including fans, pumps, compressors, chillers, cooling towers and air-handling units.
Variable-speed control lets HVAC equipment respond to changing heating and cooling loads, while built-in energy monitoring and optimization functions help manage consumption.
HVAC-specific software, primary settings, an intuitive control panel and optional Bluetooth connectivity simplify setup, commissioning and operation.
BACnet MS/TP, Modbus RTU and N2 are included as standard, with additional fieldbus options available for broader building automation connectivity.
Safe Torque Off (STO) is integrated as standard and is TÜV-certified to SIL 3 / PL e.
Depending on the model, ACH580 drives are available in wall-mounted, drive-module and cabinet-built configurations, with protection classes up to IP55.
ACH580 supports the core equipment found in modern building services.
ACH580 is not a single physical configuration — choose the construction that suits your installation.
| Variant | Construction | Catalog power range | Best suited for |
|---|---|---|---|
| ACH580-01 | Wall-mounted | 0.75–250 kW | General HVAC installations |
| ACH580-31 | Wall-mounted ULH | 4–110 kW | Applications requiring very low harmonics |
| ACH580-04 | Drive module | 250–500 kW | System integrators / cabinet builders / OEMs |
| ACH580-34 | Drive module ULH | 132–355 kW | Cabinet applications requiring ultra-low harmonics |
| ACH580-07 | Cabinet-built | 75–500 kW | Larger integrated HVAC systems |
Contact our team for assistance selecting the correct drive based on motor power, voltage, application and installation environment.
For installations where power quality and harmonic performance are critical, the ACH580 ULH incorporates harmonic mitigation technology within the drive.
Need low-harmonic performance? Choose an ACH580 ultra-low harmonic configuration with integrated harmonic mitigation and THDi of 3% or less. The ≤3% THDi figure relates specifically to the ULH configuration, not to every ACH580 model.
Ideal for integrating the drive directly into a BMS/BAS or building automation system.
With the optional Bluetooth-enabled control panel and the Drivetune smartphone app, users can configure and commission the drive remotely.
The catalog notes that SynRM technology can provide high energy efficiency while reducing motor temperatures and motor noise.
Safe Torque Off (STO) is integrated as standard, rated SIL 3 / PL e. The catalog specifies compliance with the relevant functional-safety standards and TÜV certification.
Protection rating and ambient temperature limits are variant-dependent — IP55 and specific temperature ranges do not apply to every ACH580 configuration.
Choose the appropriate voltage rating.
Match the drive to the motor's nominal power/current.
Wall-mounted, drive module or cabinet-built.
Select the appropriate ultra-low harmonic variant where necessary.
Examples include additional I/O, fieldbus adapters, Bluetooth control panel, EMC options and disconnect options.
The catalog recommends selecting the drive based on supply voltage and motor power/current, then adding the required options to the order code.
