Active Harmonic Filter (AHF)

Harmonic control in electric power systems, to IEEE 519

Sinexcel active harmonic filters measure load current in real time, decompose it with an intelligent FFT algorithm and inject an equal and opposite compensation current — cancelling harmonic distortion generated by drives, rectifiers, UPS and other non-linear loads. The result is safe operation, improved energy efficiency and THDi within IEEE 519 limits. A.R Marketing & Services carries out the harmonic study, sizing, supply, installation and post-commissioning measurement reports in Mumbai and across India.

Filtering range 2nd – 61st orders
Modules 5 A to 300 A, parallel expandable

Where harmonics come from

Typical harmonic loads

Rectifying devices

The largest harmonic loads. Fast-changing current is a constant challenge to power quality. Typical orders: 5th, 7th (6-pulse) and 11th, 13th (12-pulse).

Furnaces

The most difficult harmonic load to handle — a permanent dilemma between production process and power quality. Typical orders: 5th, 7th, 11th.

VFDs

The single biggest AHF application. Energy saving from drives comes at the cost of injected harmonics. Typical orders: 5th, 7th, 11th.

Technology

What makes Sinexcel AHF different

Sinexcel unique

Intelligent Fast Fourier Transform

An iterative FFT algorithm built on Sinexcel's updated computing power and ten years of field harmonic waveform data. The AHF allocates compensation capacity in real time, self-learns system impedance and identifies each harmonic order individually.

  • Real-time, synchronous allocation of compensation capacity
  • Detects resonance points and stops compensating there to avoid amplifying resonance
  • Continues compensating remaining orders while monitoring resonance in real time
  • Re-runs self-learning and self-adjustment whenever the load or resonance point changes
Earliest adopter

3-level topology

One additional output level means far less ripple current — the high-frequency triangular current superimposed on the inverter output that degrades current quality.

  • Output PWM waveform closer to a sine wave, better compensation effect
  • Smaller LCL filter, enabling compact module design
  • Lower inductance loss, higher system efficiency
  • IGBT voltage stress halved: less switching loss, more thermal margin, higher switching frequency
Pioneer

Modular design & plug suite

Ultra-compact wall- and rack-mounted modules with fine capacity distribution, suited to space-constrained and retrofit projects. Easy to transport, replace and integrate into panels.

  • Flexible engineering cabinets: plug cabinet, IP54, top or bottom cable entry
  • Plug suite with monitoring system and alarm indication lights
  • Customers can build their own plug cabinet on site — no wiring, quick unit replacement
  • Cost-effective route to expansion and maintenance
